Mondays seem to work nicely in general. Especially this one. As Gretchen was impossible to catch this weekend, a conveniently cancelled Trombone lesson with Jim gave me time to talk. So that was fun. Monday evenings are also typically pretty open. I took the time to talk to my Granparents and I've almost finished listening to Verdi's Requiem. The Dies Irae is still the best part, but it's pretty good. I get to see Mozart's the first Friday in March.
Tomorrow looks to be good also. I am meeting Jeff for lunch. And it is also Combo recital day, which I why I need to go practice soon. But a cancelled Jazz Ensemble and no Thunder Combo, leaves me with a nice break. Which I will most likely use for French Literature and practice for the piano test Wednesday. Either way, it's better than using time I don't have...

| WHOA! |
[19 Feb 2006|07:16pm] |
so, I think I'm going to try writing in here slightly more often. Partially to at least make it easier for people that I don't always have to time to talk to to stay in touch and also partially, to show off all the cool stuff I do. Ha.
So most recently: Today I saw the Columbus Symphony Orchestra do Dvorak's Carnival Overture, Saint-Saens' Piano Concerto, and Beethoven's 5th Symphony. Beethoven's 5th is great, so I couldn't pass that up and the others were okay.
Last night was a master class with Claudio Roditi and dinner. And then the Columbus Jazz Orchestra featuring Claudio Roditi, Jeff Clayton, and Dena Derose. Then we went to the Music Hall and saw this cool sax player with Mark Flugge and then they did a fun jam with some guys from the CJO.
Last Sunday was Gatsby's American Dream, Copeland, and the Starting Line. Good Show. Probably my favorite Copeland set, though they didn't play Priceless or Love is a Fast Song. I guess Coffee and some others made up for it.
And the Thursday before that I saw John Ellis with Aaron Goldberg, Jason Marsalis, and Roland Guerin at the Music Hall. I wasn't into the first set for some reason, but the second set was pretty amazing.
This week looks pretty standard, aside from going to Pittsburgh this weekend, but hopefully I will update more often.

Hot mint tea is de-lovely. I am enjoying this weather. It's a little chilly but sweaters and flip-flops are just fun. Volleyball and badminton are both good ideas. I'm going to sleep early tonight.

AP Music Theory comes down to reading the wrong clef... what a loser! I bowled a 139 on Saturday with a turkey in the 10th frame. Paul McCartney is playing at OSU in October... I need to find a way to afford it.
or it's already sold out. boo.

The concert tonight went well in my opinion. I'm impressed with the strings in the orchestra. She does a nice job. Ketcham Men's Choir is fun and so are their track meets. I'm going to sleep. And I'm going to school on senior skip day, beacuse I am cool.

I would enjoy terribly reading poetry outside if it weren't for the bugs. They, they really bug me. Despite them, I moved a chair outside on the front porch and have enjoyed reading two books of poems by e.e. cummings. Some of my favourites will grace this journal.
in time of daffodils(who know the goal of living is to grow) forgetting why, remember how
in time of lilacs who proclaim the aim of waking is to dream, remember so(forgetting seem)
in time of roses(who amaze our now and here with paradise) forgetting if,remember yes
in time of all sweet things beyond whatever mind may comprehend, remember seek(forgetting find)
and in a mystery to be (when time from time shall set us free) forgetting me,remember me ~e.e. cummings

"Aslan," said Lucy, "you're bigger." "That is because you are older, little one," answered he. "Not because you are?" "I am not. But every year you grow, you will find me bigger."
So this was a nice weekend. I got to drive to Webatuck twice, perform with the Ketcham Jazz Ensemble, and solo over "Round Midnight." I got to see The Phantom of the Opera movie and spend time with Alan and Vinny.
Time is starting to free up some, I played video games, Mafia, and watched a movie, Closer, today. I will have time to practice my trombone too. I want to take a picture.
Daffodils.

So, high school should stop its kidding and just be over with. I gave up on it. Only a little. I really enjoy a few classes. Actually, I still don't really mind any of them. It's just getting old. Today I tried of for a solo in chorus, and I thought I had it pretty well prepared, and it wasn't bad, but Peter is really good when he tries, so I don't have a chance. I think Andrew and Jon should get their parts though. I like chorus and singing. I want to see Phantom of the Opera. That's a plan for Saturday. Alan is coming home too. We better be able to hang out for most of my 5 free minutes.

I'm sending in my deposit to The Ohio State University today. It's very exciting to finally know what is going on. The music trip to Maryland was fun, I might write more later. Probably not.

Today was long, but fun. I didn't wake up until 10:30. It was an unusual surprise. Then we played Les Miserables... twice. Ouch. After that, Vinny, Alexis, and I went to the diner. Words of Wisdom: Two orders of buttered white toast are better than one.

Today I saw "The Incredibles" for $1. I enjoyed the movie. I began my day picking up my trombone from being repaired with Gretchen. It was so exciting. My trombone is so awesome now and we got lost in Poughkeepsie. Then we went to Charlie Brown's for lunch with my family. For dessert we all split a piece of Chocolate Eruption cake. It was chocolate mousse with chunks of cheesecake. Delicious. Then we saw the movie. By then the rain had left and dried up. Not a cloud in the sky. It was beautiful spring.
Then was another long rehearsal of Les Miserables. Mr. Banda and I disagree on how rehearsal should be run, and we know it. I think it will end up alright.
Tomorrow, I have no certain plans yet, which is very dangerous. Who knows what I could do. I'll start by cleaning my room. I need a new belt. Maybe I'll go on a shopping trip. Maybe I'll play video games. Maybe I'll read. But what?

| Happy Easter! |
[27 Mar 2005|11:17pm] |
Keeping with the trend, I watched "Jersey Girl" and "High Fidelity" tonight. They were both okay. Probably not movies that I will remember for a long time. I have a feeling "High Fidelity" is as esteemed as "Empire Records" which I did not like. Oh well. So, I'm not cool.
On a side note, I miss Alan. I want to sit and talk and play video games and eat pizza with him and hear all about France. College sucks in some ways. It certainly makes things plenty hard if you are a lazy fool. I need to work on that when I go to college or my life will be messed up.
Tomorrow, I am going to visit Greg. We've been planning it for months, so I'm excited. I hope my car doesn't break or anything.

the car I've always wanted and now I have it. I rule."
So today I watched "Finding Neverland", "It Happened One Night", and "American Beauty". I enjoyed "Finding Neverland". It was just a nice movie. I want to read "Peter Pan" now. "It Happened One Night" was good and it was very obvious how it set the tone for movies for the next 70 years at least. "American Beauty" was just screwed up. I think I "liked" it. It was interesting and shows how messed up the world is. Just wacked.
Otherwise, I got new yarn. It's really dark red and already about 18 inches long. Gretchen tried to give blood, but failed to convince the people that she weighed enough. Oh well. I think I will try to give blood next time. But I am very much a wuss. We dyed Easter eggs today and I made a nice light green one. One goal of mine over the break is to listen to the 4 Led Zeppelin Greatest Hits CDs. Shouldn't be too difficult.
Tomorrow/Today is Easter. It is also John's birthday. Happy Birthday John!

| Tuesdays With Morrie |
[26 Mar 2005|12:13am] |
I read "Tuesdays With Morrie" recently and two of my favorite parts were these:
"A teacher affects eternity; he can never tall where his influence stops." ~Henry Adams
"My father moved through theys of we, sing each new leaf out of each tree (and every child was sure that spring danced when she heard my father sing)" ~e.e. cummings
Though neither of the two excerpts I cited were written by Mitch Albom, I liked the book. I especially like the first one, because I want to be a teacher and it presents a very interesting idea.

| spring break! (day 2) |
[25 Mar 2005|11:51pm] |
I watched "Phantom Of The Opera" (with Robert Englund) and "Animal House" tonight. I finished a scarf too. I need more yarn. I also need a new book to read. I have no clue why I felt compelled to begin a new journal right now, especially since I don't feel any pressing desire to tell anyone about it.
Yesterday was a good day off from school. I spent the day at Gretchen's. We made brownies and pie. We went to dinner and played with little Nathan. What a superb kid! Then I went to Andrew's and it was crazy. Jon, John, and Andrew were playing some sort of death by ping-pong ball and then we went bowling. I was terribly inconsistent and it hurt my wrist a little. boohoo. Then we went to the dinner where we almost talked our way back to birth and I had some good toast. At Andrew's house, we played ping-pong until we played bean-pong; a variation of beer-pong where beer is replaced by a cold can of green beans. Delicious!
Tomorrow's schedule includes taking Gretchen to give blood and dying Easter eggs with her family. That is always fun.
